Since ZamCog’s founding, when the Brothers were schooling 20 street kids in a small room at their home, approximately £600,000 has been raised and a school/dormitory compound has been built. The current facilities include: - 23 acres of land - 9 large classrooms used by over 230 students grades 1-9 - a grade 9 classroom - an extremely large dining room and kitchen to accomodate up to 350 students - a computer lab - a science lab - ablutions block - dormitories housing approximately 90 boys and girls - a girls dormitory, housing 35 girls ranging in ages from 6 to 17 - a sewing room for skills training A football pitch, basketball court and a playground have also been constructed. A chicken coop housing just over 200 chickens has been built. A security fence surrounds the perimeter and vegetable gardens and a maize field have been planted and a hen house constructed, to help the school provide some of its own food. Other purchases include: a 4WD vehicle and a large yellow school bus. 48 pupils have successfully passed their grade 7 exams at above the average national grade, graduating to higher education at secondary schools, including Shitima. Zamcog funds their school fees, uniforms and transporation where required. |
Classrooms for grades 9-12 Construction of small medical facility This will provide immediate first aid and triage care for children who suffer the knocks and burises of living on the street. It will offer a private, sterile environment for town doctors to examin/treat our kids without having to take them into town, and will provide health education on the spread of STDs, AIDS and HIV infections. The facility will also educate young women on safety, security and motherhood, and will endeavour to link with other outreach programmes. |
ZamCog is fortunate to have benefited from numerous in kind donations such as school uniforms, beds, bedding, desks, computers, ovens, sports equipment, and sewing machines.
